Alpha steelstrings: A 682 / A 690 / A 688-S / A 688 / A 690-S

Label 12 -string guitar A 682

A 682 Head with the Kolbe tuners

A 690 guitar

I fact my first Alpha steelstring: Bought with an impossible
high action due toe the loosening of the neck from the body.
Two wooden dowels have to do the job as the body has been
lacquered before the neck was fitted so no glue strength!

What really attracte me was the solid rosewood back and
sides and the strip that is identical to the genuine Martin
guitars of that time.

The center strip can be studied here.

One of the fewer Alpha models that were equippped
with a Martin Headstock. Later models have another
headform and sometimes an Alpha shield glued over
the Vega brandname.

Alpha A 688-S (Thanks to Stewart)

Again a dreadnought model but this time with a maple
soundbox and  a lot of extra ornamentation.

Take a look at the hexagone inlays te way they have been done
on the Martin D45. And the abalone edges around the soundbox
of course.

Gold plated Kolbe tuners.

And finally an ebony fingerboard....

Alpha 688

In a nice golden sunburst finish this is an Alpha
labelled Vega guitar, probably after Martin stopped
importing guitars from this Dutch provider.

The same centre Martin strip.

The shield can be removed and underneath almost
certainly the inlayed Vega brandname.

Again present here are the Kolbe tuners.

Alpha A 690 - S

This must have been the pinnacle of the Alpha
factory as it is done in a D45 style with an
ebony fingerboard and lots of abalone.

The back however is derived from the D35.

This guitar is in the possesion of a former employee.
